Motion North is a group based in the heart of sunny Manchester. We’re a collection of Motion designers, animators, filmmakers and vfx artists residing in the upper regions of the UK who gather to share our love of making things move.
Started in 2009 by Jim Campbell and Ben Black, the group started as a social gathering; a way to keep up on trends, discuss plug-ins, and moan about clients/bosses. Since 2011 the event has been curated by Jonny Ashworth, and over the years has grown into a place to learn from the best, attracting industry speakers from across the world.
We’ve held events in basement bars like 2022NQ, the offices of Code Computerlove, the event space at Federation House, and more recently at our amazing new home, the iconic Band on the Wall.
2025 saw our first full day event at
New Century Hall in Manchester.
For 2026 we're going for two days.
We call this longer event:
The Big'Un.

For February's bigger event, we move to a new venue for Motion North, Freight Island. This gives us the scope to work acorss multiple rooms, with even more speakers, but importantly in a venue where you feel connected.

Since 2022 we've been based at the amazing Manchester venue, Band on the Wall. A superb home that ticks all the boxes. Great sound, great screens, and great location.
