What can I expect at Motion North?
It's a busy event, with a lot of people, and lots of choice. Think of a mini-music festival, but with talks about animation & creativity instead of music. If you need a break, and a bit of quiet, there are plenty of spaces outdoors around the venue. The venue is also very large with some mezzanine spaces that we will be keeping free for 'chill-out' zones.
Sensory information
There will be times between talks when lots of people will be moving around, so if you don't like crowds, maybe avoid moving when everyone else is doing so.
The talks are in big rooms, so you can take your time moving about. And if you don't like a talk, you can just up and leave. It's not at all like being stuck in a lecture theatre. The spaces are all very laid back.
We will have areas that will allow you to get away from things. If you find you need support, please approach any of the crew who are helping the event. You'll be able to pick them out by the T-shirts they are wearing, and they will point you towards someone who can get you the help you need.
The event will most likely be busiest mid-afternoon, and also will get congested around meal times.
Is there Food & Drink?
There are plenty of food stalls at Freight Island, as well as bars serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We will post more information on the food and dietary information soon as we know it.
What is the vibe?
Motion North is meant to be a laid back, casual event, which is why we're careful about where we host it. Some people come along to focus on all the talks, some people spend more time having drinks and catching up with people. It's also a great place to meet other people who enjoy the same things.
Despite being relaxed in nature, it is an informative event. We strive to make sure the talks and workshops are of the highest quality, and offer real variety too.
Tell me about the venue.
Freight Island runs over several levels. The majority of the main talks will be on the accessible level, however there are some parts that are only accessible by stairs. We will have three main spaces:
Platform: The biggest indoor stage, and the one you see as you enter the venue.
The Workshop: Up the stairs at the back of Platform, a smaller space which will have headphones used to ensure that you can hear all the detail. This also helps us avoid any sound clashes.
Plant Room: This is outside the main venue, in a large purpose built tented area.
As well as these spaces, we also have a Mezzanine space above the food hall. This is where we will host the Wacom area, to play with pen and tablets, and also events like the Portfolio Reviews + other fun events.
